I was never interested in pornography. I was probably too distracted with other things. I have always thought, rather superficially, that photographers focused on sexuality either to be provocative or for lack of other ideas. So, I was greatly surprised and immediately fascinated when I discovered the vast quantity of objects dedicated to all types of “perversions”. Oddly enough, when I took a quick look at Wikipedia, the term perversion had a negative connotation, “a perversion is a deviant attitude that expresses itself in the ideation and pursuit of behaviors that are distorted with respect to common sense.” So, in a society where everyone pollutes, the ecologists are perverse or in a corrupt society, the honest people are perverse. As always, it is a question of point of view.
I cannot imagine anything more democratic than pornography. It is aimed at everyone. It is inclusive and does not discriminate. It does not care what color you are, what you look like or what your political or religious affiliations are. Nor does it care about your age or sexual orientation. Quite the opposite.
LATEX is the first chapter of my new project ALTERNATIVE. I could not resist the evocative magic and abundant creativity hidden in and promised by these objects. Everything that I have photographed really exists, every object can be easily purchased anywhere in the world. I did not have to add anything, I even removed the unnecessary. I have tried to talk about the esthetics of pornography by removing one of its key elements: flesh. This seemed like a worthy challenge to me.
